Dental Balance – When teeth, jaw, and body are in harmony

For good health, it is important that the body is in balance. This also applies to the mouth. If teeth, temporomandibular joints, and chewing muscles are not in harmony with one another, this can lead to far-reaching complaints. To restore this dental balance, we offer our patients in Kronberg a comprehensive service and holistic treatment.

What exactly is dental balance?

Dental balance describes the harmonious relationship between teeth, temporomandibular joints, and muscles. This means that when chewing, speaking, or swallowing, all structures work together precisely, without overload or dysfunction. The position of the teeth and the bite are particularly important, as they influence how the forces of the jaw muscles are distributed. If these forces are not distributed evenly, this can lead to tension and further complaints—not only in the mouth, but also at the back of the head, in the neck, in the shoulders, and down into the back. It is therefore important to restore dental balance with holistic treatment from your dentist.

What causes disrupted dental balance?

Many factors can negatively affect dental balance, including:
  • Misalignment of the teeth or jaw
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching)
  • Tooth loss or poorly fitting dental restorations
  • Worn fillings or crowns that disrupt the bite
  • Temporomandibular joint problems such as TMD (temporomandibular disorder)
These issues lead to improper strain on the chewing muscles and the temporomandibular joints.

Consequences of disrupted dental balance

The effects of an imbalance are diverse and often underestimated. Typical complaints include:

  • Temporomandibular joint pain, clicking, or limited mouth opening
  • Tension in the neck, shoulder, or back area
  • Headaches, migraines, or tinnitus
  • Teeth grinding and tooth wear
  • Sleep disturbances or concentration problems

Often, the symptoms are not initially associated with the teeth. That is why it is important to carry out comprehensive functional therapy for these complaints.

How is dental balance restored?

The first step toward proper dental balance is always a thorough functional analysis. For this, we use state-of-the-art technology such as digital bite analysis or facebow measurement. This often allows the exact cause to be diagnosed.

We then begin treatment. Depending on the cause and symptoms, there are various options. These include, for example, custom occlusal splints. These can be worn at night and relieve strain on the jaw. In cases of tooth misalignment, we can correct the teeth with aligners or fixed braces. If the symptoms have arisen due to gaps in the teeth or unsuitable dental restorations, we can produce high-quality dental restorations for you.

In addition to these measures, special physiotherapy or osteopathic therapy can also be very beneficial. We will discuss all details of the treatment with you. Especially in cases of TMD, interdisciplinary collaboration between the dentist, physiotherapist, and other specialists is very important. We are happy to be there for you and restore your dental balance!
